It's official: John Ternus is Apple's new CEO 👔

John Ternus officially became Apple's CEO on September 1, ending Tim Cook's 15-year run at the top. Ternus, who joined Apple in 2001 and led Hardware Engineering since 2021, now also sits on Apple's board.

Cook made it official with his final memo to staff, calling the job the "privilege of a lifetime" and backing Ternus as "brilliant and wonderful and capable." He isn't leaving Apple, just the CEO chair, Cook moves to executive chairman, staying involved with policymaker relations. On X, he summed it up in one line: "My title changes tomorrow."

Leak: the iPhone 18 Pro's chip may pack 7 GPU cores 🔥

A Weibo leaker's board diagrams suggest Apple's unannounced A20 Pro chip could jump to seven GPU cores, up from six on the current A19 Pro, while keeping the same six-core CPU layout. The same reconstruction hints at more cache and a faster memory interface.

Worth the caveat: this comes from claimed solder-joint positions, not an actual chip photo, so treat it as plausible rather than confirmed. The good news? Apple's Sept 9 event is the first real chance to find out for sure.

A mysterious new MacBook may slot between the Air and Pro 💻

Display analyst Omdia's roadmap points to a 13.8-inch OLED MacBook landing around 2029, sitting between the LCD MacBook Air and the pricier OLED MacBook Pro, essentially a fourth MacBook tier. Apple reportedly already sent panel RFIs to Samsung, LG, and BOE back in June.

Rumored extras include integrated touch, an under-panel camera, and a thinner display stack, though none of that is confirmed. The MacBook Air, meanwhile, is expected to stick with LCD well into 2030.

iOS 27 may let you swap your number between two iPhones 📱

A new iPhone Handoff feature spotted in iOS 27 beta code lets one phone number move between two iPhones, useful if you want a second, older iPhone for travel or workouts without a second line. Setup lives under Settings > Cellular, with a companion eSIM transferred to the second device.

The catch: it needs carrier support, and so far only T-Mobile (US) and Telekom.de (Germany) have been spotted as early partners, with T-Mobile's own test server reportedly still disabled. Cool feature, limited rollout for now.
