๐ฒ iOS 27.0.1 is out. Install it before the weekend
Install iOS 27.0.1 before the weekend. And if you use a work Microsoft 365 account on a Mac, read story two before Monday.
Let's get into it. ๐

Apple Mail on Mac and the Microsoft 365 cutoff ๐ง

The ultimate iOS 27 guide is here, packed with hidden features, pro tips and step-by-step walkthroughs to help you get the most out of your iPhone. It covers the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo too, and it's $4.99.
Get the most out of Siri AI: how Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI work, and how to generate Shortcuts and Safari extensions with AI.
Find your way around iOS 27: how to navigate and customize the updated interface, and exactly what changed since iOS 26.
Master the apps you use every day: Messages, Phone, Photos, Camera, Safari and more, plus hidden tricks and fixes for common iOS 27 problems.
Install iOS 27.0.1 today, especially on an iPhone 18 Pro ๐ ๏ธ
โ
Confirmed: Apple shipped iOS 27.0.1 on September 28. It fixes three bugs: iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models restarting when Face ID fails, a color artifact in some 2x photos on a small number of 18 Pro units, and a touchscreen freeze when Notification Center and Control Center open at the same time.
Reported: On October 1, AT&T texted iPhone 18 Pro Max owners that some phones may not complete calls, texts or data, including to 911, and told them to update immediately (MacRumors). Plenty of owners say 27.0.1 hasn't cured the AT&T problem yet, so if you're still stuck in SOS after updating, call AT&T before you assume the phone is faulty.
I'd install it today. Settings > General > Software Update.
Why it matters: A point update with a carrier text behind it gets installed fast. If you support iPhone users or sell accessories, expect a weekend of "is my 18 Pro broken?" questions, and point people to the update first.
Check Apple Mail on your Mac before Microsoft 365 sync stops ๐ง
โ
Confirmed: Microsoft started phasing out Exchange Web Services in Exchange Online on October 1, with a full shutdown on April 1, 2027. Mail and Calendar on the Mac still connect through EWS, so once your organization's account is switched off, they can stop updating even though the account itself works fine.
iPhone and iPad use Exchange ActiveSync instead, which is why a message can show up on your phone and never reach your Mac. Apple says Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Notes and Reminders on Mac will move to Microsoft Graph in a future macOS 27 update. There's no date for that yet.
My take: if your work email lives in Apple Mail on a Mac, ask IT this week which client to use in the meantime. A calendar invite that never arrives is a bad way to find out.
Why it matters: Mac-heavy sales and partner teams could miss mail for days without noticing. If your company runs Microsoft 365, check the EWS usage report now and tell Mac users what to switch to.
Circle October 13 if you want an Apple screen for the kitchen ๐
โ
Reported: Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple plans to introduce a smart home hub, a new HomePod mini and a new Apple TV on Tuesday, October 13 (MacRumors). The HomePod mini and Apple TV keep their designs but get faster chips for Siri AI.
The hub is the interesting one. Per the same reporting, it has a 6-inch square screen on a metal arm above a speaker base, very iMac G4, with USB-C power, no battery and a front FaceTime camera. A wall-mounted version is reportedly coming too. Apple hasn't confirmed the date, the design or prices.
If you were about to buy an Apple TV or a HomePod mini, I'd hold off for 11 days.
Why it matters: A Siri AI screen in the kitchen is a new surface for Home and HomeKit apps. Accessory makers can plan content around the 13th, but nobody should promise specs until Apple does.
Skip the Ultra 4 unless you actually hike or dive โ
โ
Ava Biswas lined up the 2026 watches in our Apple Watch buying guide: Series 12 from $399 for most people, Ultra 4 from $799 for trail runners and divers (up to 50 hours of battery, 100m water resistance, dual-frequency GPS), and SE 3 from $249 if you want the basics.
The big change this year: the new Health Sensing System and Readiness score come to the Series 12 too, so you no longer pay Ultra money for Apple's newest health tracking. All three need an iPhone 11 or later on iOS 27, and Siri AI needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later.
For most people I'd buy the Series 12 and spend the difference on a second band.
Why it matters: The Series 12 is the volume pitch this fall. The Ultra 4 sells to a narrow, loyal crowd, so target it at outdoor and endurance audiences, not everyone.
If the Unified Calls tab still throws you, open Phone > Calls, tap Filter in the top right and choose Classic. Separate tabs for Favorites, Recents, Contacts, Keypad and Voicemail come right back.
Changed your mind? Go to Recents, tap Filter and pick Unified. Switching layouts doesn't touch your contacts, favorites or call history. Here's the full walkthrough.
If your thumb keeps reaching for a Keypad tab that isn't there, this is a ten-second fix.
Why it matters: "Where did my Keypad go?" is one of the most common iOS 27 support questions. Help desks and onboarding teams should keep this link handy.
This was a fix-it week. The first iOS 27 point update landed with a carrier warning behind it, Microsoft started a countdown that hits Mac users first, and Apple's next launch looks like a home product, not a phone. None of it is flashy. All of it changes what you do this weekend: update the iPhone, ask IT about your Mac, and don't buy an Apple TV yet.
On the calendar: October 16, iPhone Duo pre-orders open (confirmed, from $1,999). October 23, iPhone Duo ships (confirmed). April 1, 2027, Microsoft's final EWS shutdown (confirmed). Still rumor: the October 13 home hub, HomePod mini and Apple TV (Bloomberg), and an OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro this fall (Bloomberg).
