Add AppleCare+ to your iPhone Duo order today ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Confirmed: iPhone Duo pre-orders opened at 5 AM PT today. It starts at $1,999 ($83.29 a month on Apple Card), and it reaches stores on October 23.

Reported: Apple's repair list, spotted by MacRumors, puts a cracked inner display at $999 without AppleCare+, and other accidental damage at up to $1,499. With the plan, both repairs cost $99.

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is $399 upfront or $19.99 a month. One inner screen repair and the plan has paid for itself: $498 all in, against $999 without it. On Apple's first foldable, I'd add it at checkout.

Why it matters: a screen fix that costs half the phone will shape how people shop the Duo. Expect carriers, case makers and insurers to field the AppleCare+ question all launch week, and plan your Duo content around it.

Pre-order HomeView now if you want one by November 13 ๐Ÿ

Confirmed: Apple announced HomeView, a 7-inch smart display, at Tuesday's Welcome home event. The tabletop and wall-mounted versions both cost $299, pre-orders are open, and it ships November 13.

It recognizes up to six people by face and gives each one a personal Home Screen. There are two catches. Camera recognition needs an iCloud+ plan, and Siri AI is in beta and English-only. I expected a higher price, but I'd still wait for reviews, because Siri AI is most of the pitch.

Why it matters: Apple now has a screen on the kitchen counter. If you make Matter or Works with Apple Home gear, note that the Apple Home Collection, built with LG and Schneider Electric, starts in December.

Keep your 2022 Apple TV unless you want surround sound ๐Ÿ“บ

Confirmed: The new Apple TV 4K runs on an A19 chip, costs $299 and ships November 13, with pre-orders open now.

If you're thinking of upgrading, Siri AI also works on the second-generation Apple TV 4K and later, which includes the 2022 box. The new hardware trick is four-speaker surround, with two HomePod mini 2 speakers at the rear. You only get that if you buy the speakers too.

Why it matters: Siri AI reaches boxes people already own, so streaming apps should check how they show up in voice search before the holidays.

Pick HomePod mini 2 over HomeView if you only want music ๐Ÿ”Š

Ava Biswas put HomeView against HomePod mini 2, and the split is simple. HomePod mini 2 costs $149, arrives October 30, and handles music, Siri and home control from a shelf. HomeView doubles the price for a touchscreen, a FaceTime camera and up to nine camera feeds on one screen.

One detail matters: Siri AI is on HomeView at launch, while HomePod mini 2 gets it in a later software update. If you want a speaker today, I'd take the mini. If you want a screen in the kitchen, wait for HomeView reviews.

Why it matters: Apple's home line now has a $149 tier and a $299 tier. Gift guides and holiday deals will likely anchor on the cheaper one.

Turn your loyalty cards into Apple Wallet passes ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ

iOS 27 added Create a Pass to Wallet. Tap +, choose Create a Pass, and photograph a loyalty card, gym membership or ticket with a barcode or QR code. Ava Biswas walks through three ways to build a pass, including a manual option for older iPhones.

Scanning needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Keep the physical card until you've checked the store accepts the pass, especially for tickets whose codes refresh. It's a ten-minute job I'd do this weekend.

Why it matters: customers can now make their own passes for brands that never shipped one. An official pass that updates itself is still better, so this is a good moment to build one.

My read this week ๐Ÿงญ

This was a shopping week. The Duo went on sale this morning, and Tuesday's event brought HomeView, a new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2. Siri AI ties the home gear together, and on all of it Siri AI is still a beta that speaks English only. I'd judge the Duo on its own merits and wait for HomeView reviews before letting Siri run the kitchen.

On the calendar: iPhone Duo in stores October 23. HomePod mini 2 on October 30. HomeView and Apple TV 4K ship November 13. No Man's Sky is expected on iPhone and iPad on October 29 for $19.99. Apple Home Collection accessories start in December. Still rumor: an OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro on October 27 or November 6, and an OLED iPad mini near $799.
