The event is done, and now the clock starts. iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open tomorrow at 5 AM PT, iOS 27 lands Monday, and Apple quietly slipped a $100 price hike onto every older iPhone while we were all staring at the foldable.

This issue is about what those changes mean for your wallet and your next upgrade, not a rerun of Tuesday's keynote.

iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open tomorrow at 5 AM PT 🛒

Confirmed: pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max open Saturday, September 12 at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET, with phones arriving September 18. Pricing holds at $1,199 and $1,299, both starting at 256GB and topping out at 2TB.

Apple's own trade-in goes up to $885 for an iPhone 13 or newer. Reported (TechRadar roundup): Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are all dangling up to $1,200 off with a trade-in on their premium plans, and T-Mobile is offering a free 18 Pro to switchers. Our buying guide argues waiting is more tempting than usual this year, since the standard iPhone 18 isn't part of this launch.

Why it matters: the trade-in credit gap between Apple and the carriers is bigger than I've seen in years. If you sell iPhones, accessories or plans, Saturday morning ET is the moment your audience is deciding, so have your comparison content live before 8 AM ET, not after.

Every older iPhone just got $100 more expensive 💸

Confirmed (MacRumors, 9to5Mac): on event day Apple raised US prices on the phones it kept in the lineup. The iPhone 17 is now $899 (was $799), the iPhone Air is $1,099 (was $999), the iPhone 17e is $699 (was $599), and even the iPhone 16 climbed to $799 (was $699).

Nobody said it on stage. Tim Cook has previously blamed memory and storage chip costs Apple can no longer absorb, with AI data centers hoovering up supply. My take: this is the real headline of the week for most buyers, because the "cheap" iPhone just stopped being cheap.

Why it matters: every price point in your content, comparison tables and ad copy is now wrong by $100. Refresh it this weekend. For partners, the value story shifts hard toward trade-ins and refurbished, and toward Android at the $699 tier.

iOS 27 lands Monday, and the App Store is already open for it 📱

Confirmed: iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 all ship Monday, September 14. iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 and newer, and the new Siri AI runs on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. Apple is also accepting App Store submissions built with the Xcode 27 release candidate as of this week. Two dates developers should circle: macOS 27 is Apple silicon only (macOS 26 is the last Intel release), and from April 2027 every new app submission must use the OS 27 SDKs.

Why it matters: Monday is the biggest single-day install wave of the year. If your app or campaign has an iOS 27 hook, ship it before Monday morning PT, not the week after.

Free satellite features get another year 🛰️

Confirmed: Apple has extended complimentary satellite access for iPhone 14, 15 and 16 owners by another twelve months. That covers Emergency SOS, Messages via satellite, Find My location sharing and Roadside Assistance where it's supported, as long as the phone was activated before the September 9 cutoff.

This is at least the third extension for iPhone 14 owners, and Apple still hasn't said what it will charge, if anything, when the free period finally ends. My read: Apple has decided the safety story is worth more than the subscription, at least for now.

Why it matters: "free for another year" is a retention message, not a sales one. It keeps four-year-old iPhones feeling supported, which is exactly what Apple wants while it pushes the Pro and the foldable at the top end.

Siri Recap on Apple Watch won't record you ⌚

Confirmed: Siri Recap, the new Series 12 and Ultra 4 feature that summarizes conversations, processes audio on the S11 chip's Secure Exclave and then deletes it. No recording is created or stored. Summaries are titled, editable and exportable from the Siri app, they sync over iCloud with end-to-end encryption, and unsaved recaps auto-delete after seven days.

Apple is clearly trying to head off the "my watch is recording everyone" story before it starts. Whether that lands depends on how people around the wearer feel about it, not the wearer.

Why it matters: this is the privacy positioning to copy. If you're building anything with always-listening AI, "summary, not recording, deleted on-device" is the language customers will now expect.

iPhone Duo vs Pixel 11 Pro Fold: our verdict 🥊

We put the $1,999 iPhone Duo up against the $1,899 Pixel 11 Pro Fold, and on paper Google wins the spec sheet: an 8-inch inner display versus 7.6, a 6.5-inch outer screen versus 5.4, a dedicated 5x telephoto the Duo lacks, and it's on shelves now while the Duo waits until October 23. The Duo counters with a 2TB option, Apple Pencil support and Apple's video pipeline.

Our verdict: the Pixel is the better foldable for most people, but the Duo is the more interesting choice if your life already runs through Apple. I agree, with one caveat: first-generation Apple hardware usually gets the polish in year two.

Why it matters: for the next six weeks the Duo has no retail presence, only pre-launch buzz. Comparison content will be the highest-intent Apple traffic on the web until October 16, so plan for it.

My read this week 🧭

Tuesday was about the hardware. This week was about the bill. A $100 hike across the older lineup, a $1,199 starting point for the Pro, and $2,000 for a foldable that ships in October: Apple is pricing for the customers it has, not the ones it's trying to win. The free satellite extension and the on-device Siri Recap are the softer side of the same strategy, giving the installed base reasons to stay while the top end gets more expensive.

If you're on the fence, my advice is simple. Pre-order Saturday if you have a strong trade-in or carrier credit; otherwise wait for the standard iPhone 18 and let the Duo have its year-one teething in someone else's pocket.
