iPhone Duo: Apple's first foldable iPhone is finally official

Apple's first foldable iPhone is called iPhone Duo, and it's real: a 7.6-inch inner OLED display, a 5.4-inch outer screen, Touch ID in the side button, titanium frame, and dual 48MP rear cameras. It runs the same A20 Pro chip as the 18 Pro lineup, paired with a vapor chamber cooling system.

Pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB, climbing to $3,199 for 2TB. US preorders open October 16 at 5 AM PT, with availability from October 23. Battery claims: up to 24 hours typical use, up to 44 hours video playback on the outer display.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: everything that's new

Apple's Pro lineup gets a variable-aperture main camera (f/1.48 to f/4.0), the new A20 Pro chip, and a next-gen vapor chamber with 3x the surface area of last year's. The Dynamic Island is smaller but now shows up to 3 Live Activities at once. New colors: Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy.

Should you upgrade from the iPhone 17 Pro Max?

Our editor put the iPhone 18 Pro Max head-to-head with last year's model. The verdict: not a design overhaul, but a real upgrade where it counts. Video playback jumps from 39 to 43 hours, the variable-aperture camera is a genuine first, and the A20 Pro's 32-core Neural Engine doubles AI processing power.

Her take: skip it if you're happy with your 17 Pro Max's camera and battery. Upgrade if photography, sustained performance, or AI features are priorities, or if you're coming from an iPhone 15 Pro Max or older.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4: what changed

Both new Watches share the new S11 chip and a genuinely useful upgrade: the Health Sensing System now takes heart rate readings every 5 seconds, plus a new Audio Intelligence suite (Sound Recognition, Live Rewind, Siri Recap, Shazam).

• Series 12 starts at $399 (unchanged), now available in ceramic for the first time.
• Ultra 4 starts at $799 (unchanged), with a huge 50-hour battery (84 hours in Low Power Mode).
• Both ship September 18.

AirPods 5 finally bring ANC to the open-ear design

The biggest AirPods surprise of the day: Active Noise Cancellation now comes to Apple's $129 open-ear AirPods, removing up to 50% more noise than the old AirPods 4 with ANC, without silicone ear tips. They also add Siri AI, Live Translation, and IP57 water resistance.

Standard AirPods 5 are $129; the version with a Wireless Charging Case (adds volume swipe control) is $149. Both are available September 18.
