⌚️Will Smart Rings replace Smart Watches?

While smartwatches and other wearable categories are also experiencing a robust growth, smart rings are growing at an astounding rate.

The global smart ring market was estimated at USD 210 million in 2023 and is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of around 24% from 2024 to 2032.

When smart watches were initially launched, their creators assumed that such a gadget would have multiple use cases.

But so far, smart watches have only found one major product market fit in activity tracking, aside from the obvious use for notification nudges.

What's interesting is that people are increasingly trusting Smart Rings don't have a screen altogether.

It does a one job - tracking fitness and health - and does it well.

This proves that even though the most popular use case of smart watches is activity tracking, people can do that without a screen.

See, the limited form factor of a ring requires massive advancements in nanotechnology.

Another challenge is that smart rings offer comparatively fewer features for their price than smart watches.

The "bundle feature" phenomenon suggests that consumers would always prefer having more features, even if they are not very relevant.

Smart Ring companies entered the market with the aim to solve for one simple issue:
It is inconvenient for people to wear a bulky watch to sleep. The obvious alternative to this gadget fatigue was a ring.

Not only did smart ring companies create exactly that, but even outdid some of the most sophisticated smart watch tech.

As this wearable market becomes very saturated, the opportunity lies in simplifying the data collected so that anyone can understand it.

For example, a smart ring with a voice interface could allow users to ask about their health metrics using natural language, such as "What's my heart rate right now?" and receive immediate, understandable responses, making the technology more user-friendly.

Smart Rings makers may also adapt subscription model. The device in this case is free, and all you have to pay for is the annual subscription.

Not only does this make recurring revenue from the company a surety, but also offers free device upgrades to the subscribers.

So why not prefer a form factor as small and light as a ring instead of a smart watch or band?

🚨What’s next for the iPad mini?

The current-generation iPad mini was introduced back in September 2021 and hasn’t been updated since. What’s next for the iPad mini?

New display: According to a rumor, Apple has changed the direction of the iPad mini's screen assembling to help reduce the effects of the jelly scrolling design flaw. Despite this improvement, the iPad mini 7’s display will still be limited to 60Hz and use LCD screen technology.

Faster performance: The next-generation iPad mini will feature faster performance. The current iPad mini is powered by the A15 Bionic chip, while a reliable leaker on Weibo says the new model will feature an A16 Bionic.

This isn’t a dramatic upgrade, and performance will still lag behind the A17 and A18 chips used in the most recent iPhone models. Still, users can expect a modest boost in both CPU and GPU performance.

According to “Instant Digital” on Weibo, the new iPad mini 7 will be available in new colors. For context, the current iPad mini comes in purple, starlight, pink, and space gray.

Release date: The new iPad mini 7 will be released later this year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman as well as Ming-Chi Kuo.

❤️‍🩹 Why sleeping with Apple Watch will deliver the most accurate 'Vitals'?

You should wear your watch to sleep each night to get a more holistic understanding of your daily health status including heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen, and sleep duration.

But why do you need to get those measurements with Apple Watch while sleeping? Apple Health VP Dr. Sumbul Desai shared the answer in an interview with CNET.

Tucked safely away from daytime stress, activity and movement that can influence health metrics like heart rate or temperature, health information collected overnight can give you a more complete picture of your baseline or “basal” state, according to Desai.

Dr. Desai also highlighted that the Vitals app notifications are careful not to suggest the need to seek medical help:

"We don’t say, ‘You need to go talk to a doctor,'” she added, referring to the language used on Vitals. “We’re really thoughtful about not unnecessarily queuing you to go to the doctor."

💻New compact camera module for M5 MacBooks expected in 2025

Apple has reportedly commissioned one of its Vietnamese suppliers, Sunny Optical, to provide a new MacBook compact camera module (CCM) from next year. According Ming-Chi Kuo, this is likely to be first used in an M5 MacBook Pro in late 2025.

A CCM is essentially the entire camera unit minus the lens – that is, the sensor, digital signal processing (DSP) unit, and infrared filter needed to remove wavelengths that can interfere with color accuracy.

Sunny Optical used to supply iPhone lenses to Apple. Additionally, Sunny Optical will become Apple’s new CCM supplier in 2025, with mass production and shipments in Vietnam for the CCM of the new M5 series MacBook models.

In Apple’s optical component supply chain, only Sunny Optical can simultaneously supply CCM and lenses. This could potentially simplify Apple’s supply chain.

We’re expecting M4 MacBook Pro models to launch in the final quarter of this year, with M5 versions likely to follow around a year later.
