iPhone OS 1 to iOS 18 – A brief history of the iPhone software link

  • Apple’s iOS operating system has improved considerably since its original release in 2007. Every new edition has introduced new technology and enhancements over the years. iPhone OS 2 brought the App Store, while iOS 14 incorporated 5G connectivity.
  • In this editorial, we will revisit history and discuss different versions of iOS, from the initial iPhone OS to the recently launched iOS 18. You will learn about the major specifics of various versions and the turning points in the evolution of the iOS operating system.

The one device that really needs Apple Intelligence isn’t getting it link

  • Apple Intelligence, which was announced at WWDC 2024 last week, isn’t a feature exclusive to a single product or even a single line of products. It’s a platform-agnostic raft of features that will be common to the newest editions of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. As such, it stands to have a major impact across great swathes of Apple’s ecosystem. In short, it’s the future of everything.
  • But there’s one important part of the ecosystem that won’t be affected, at least not in the first wave of implementation: the Apple Watch. The watchOS 11 announcement covered customizable Photos faces, updated fitness metrics, a smarter Smart Stack, and a new Vitals app, but Apple Intelligence will be kept off the wrist for now.

Final Cut Camera for iPhone now available on the App Store link

  • Final Cut Camera, a new video capture app for iPhone, is now available on the App Store. It offers professional controls for adjusting settings like white balance and manual focus. We can also seamlessly connect with Final Cut Pro on Mac and iPad for a complete video production experience.
  • Final Cut Camera is an “all-new video capture app” that lets creators “wirelessly connect and remotely direct each video angle with powerful pro controls.” Although the app was first presented as a companion tool for controlling the iPhone camera from the iPad, it also works on the iPhone as a standalone app.

Apple Maps in iOS 18: Here’s everything new coming this fall link

  • iOS 18 brings big updates to Apple Maps, including a new Saved Places feature, personal notes for locations, and custom walking routes. Hikers will also benefit from topographic maps, offline hiking options, and the ability to create custom hiking routes within the app.
  • These new features make Maps more versatile and useful for iPhone users.

Apple kills Vision Pro 2 to focus on lower-cost headset for 2025 link

  • Apple has suspended work on the high-end successor to the Vision Pro (you could call it Vision Pro 2). The report says Apple has told at least one supplier, according to "an employee at a manufacturer that makes key components for the Vision Pro."
  • Apple had reportedly been working on two new Vision products: a refreshed high-end “Pro” model with enhanced capabilities and a more affordable model that Apple would aim to sell for a price similar to that of a high-end iPhone.
  • Apple had intended to release the more affordable model by the end of 2025 but is said to be struggling to bring manufacturing costs down without sacrificing features and performance.

M4 MacBook Pro upgrade could arrive by the end of 2024 link

  • Apple could be planning to update the MacBook Pro lineup to M4 chips before the end of 2024, based on OLED screen production timetables.
  • MacBook Pro updates are on the way. Displays for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro will allegedly start in the third quarter of 2024.
  • If correct, this should mean that a launch could happen in the fourth quarter of 2024, in time for the holiday season.

Apple's new 'Help Me Choose' quiz helps users find the right Mac link

  • Apple's website was recently updated to include an all-new Help Me Choose quiz, created to help potential customers find the Mac best suited for their needs and within their budget.
  • Apple's new quiz will help you find your ideal Mac computer through a variety of questions. The quiz gives users the option to select exactly what their Mac will be used for, where it will be used, and with which accessories. It considers all of this information and uses it to suggest the ideal Mac computer.
  • We can select whether they use their Mac for work, school, entertainment, or hobbies. For each selected category, the quiz will present follow-up questions with more specific information on what the computer will be used for.

Should you shut down your Mac when away for long periods? link

  • Although most of us cannot imagine being separated from a Mac for more than a few hours or maybe a couple of days, emergencies, study trips, and summer or other travel can lead to many days, weeks, or even months in which your Mac isn’t in use.
  • Should you shut it down? And if you do, will anything go wrong while it’s shut down in your absence? Should you leave it plugged in, whether it’s battery-powered or not?
  • Let's get answers to these questions.

WhatsApp users can now set HD quality as default for sending photos and video link

  • WhatsApp last year introduced the option to let users send “HD photos,” keeping their original resolution with lower compression.
  • However, users had to choose the HD option every time they sent a photo to someone – but not anymore. That’s because WhatsApp is rolling out a new option to set the option to send HD photos as the default.

🖼️ Wallpaper of The Week

HDR paint splash wallpapers
One of the best parts of the iPhone is, undoubtedly, the OLED screen. The ability for the panel to display high dynamic range images with incredible clarity and contrast is unparalleled in the handset industry. Today’s HDR paint splash wallpapers take advantage of the contrast ratio and the ability to showcase a wide color gamut.
