Apple Ditches Camera Watch

In a strategic pivot, Apple has reportedly canceled its camera-equipped Apple Watch project (codenamed “Nevis”), originally planned for a 2027 launch. Instead, Apple is doubling down on more discreet and immersive wearables—like AI-powered AirPods and smart glasses that blend seamlessly into everyday life.

AirPods with cameras? - Yes, really. Apple is working on next-gen AirPods (Project “Glennie”) featuring infrared cameras to enable gesture controls, spatial awareness, and ambient AI experiences—marking a bold new frontier for earbuds.

Smart glasses are still on track for a 2026 debut. They’re expected to offer real-time overlays, Visual Intelligence, and AI-powered navigation—positioning them as Apple’s answer to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses.

Why the change? Apple sees more long-term potential in sensory-rich wearables that feel natural—where your ears and eyes do the work, not your wrist.

Fortnite Returns to U.S. App Store After 5-Year Ban

After a prolonged legal battle and years of being removed from the App Store, Fortnite has officially made its comeback on iPhones and iPads in the U.S.—signaling a huge shift in Apple’s App Store policies.

Court Pressure Forces Apple’s Hand: Apple initially resisted Fortnite’s reinstatement, but after Epic appealed to a federal judge, the court issued a warning that forced Apple to comply. The judge demanded Fortnite be allowed back or Apple’s compliance officer would face questioning under oath.

Fortnite Returns with Dual Payment Options: The new version of Fortnite includes both Apple’s in-app purchase system and Epic’s own Epic Games Store payment method—taking full advantage of the court’s ruling allowing external payment links within iOS apps.

A Major Win for Developers Everywhere: Beyond the game itself, this moment signals a broader shift in the App Store landscape. With Apple’s tight payment restrictions beginning to loosen, more developers could soon gain control over how they monetize apps—potentially reshaping the iOS ecosystem for good.

Google Translate Now Speaks First on iPhone

With iOS 18.4 or later, you can now replace Apple’s built-in Translate app with Google Translate as the default for system-wide translations. That means whether you’re translating text via Siri, Safari, or a pop-up menu, it’ll automatically use Google Translate if you’ve set it up.

Why it matters:

  • More choice, finally! Apple has quietly rolled out support for default translation apps—previously, you were locked into Apple’s Translate no matter what.
  • Part of a bigger shift: This update is part of Apple’s wider response to global regulatory pressure (especially from the EU’s Digital Markets Act) to allow more third-party app control.
  • It’s live globally: Unlike some changes limited to the EU, this default translation setting is available for users worldwide.

Apple Glasses: What We Know So Far

Apple may be gearing up for its most futuristic wearable yet—Apple Glasses. While still unannounced, a mix of patents, leaks, and insider reports hint at a lightweight, AR-powered smart glasses experience coming as early as 2026 or 2027. Here’s a detailed look at what’s cooking:

Sleek Design, AR Overlays, iPhone Syncing - Apple Glasses are rumored to look like everyday eyewear—but with an intelligent twist. Expect a Clark Kent-style frame, optional camera module, LiDAR scanner, and seamless syncing with iPhone to display texts, calls, maps, and more right in your line of sight. Think of it as a heads-up display for your real world.

Custom visionOS, Apple Intelligence & Privacy Focus - The glasses will likely run a slimmed-down version of visionOS, powered by a custom low-power chip. With deep Apple Intelligence integration, they’ll support contextual Siri, real-time translation, navigation, and productivity tools. Apple is also expected to prioritize privacy—offering on-device processing and clear indicators when recording.

Launch Timeline: Late 2026–Early 2027 + Expected Price - Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman both suggest a 2026–2027 launch window. Unlike the $3,499 Vision Pro, Apple Glasses could target a $499–$699 price range, making them more accessible. Early models may focus on essential overlays rather than full AR immersion, serving everyday users, travelers, and professionals alike.
