1. Exciting Week of Announcements from Apple!

โ€‹
While itโ€™s not an event, Apple has officially confirmed that next week will be an "exciting week of announcements," starting on Monday morning. This teaser was shared on X by Appleโ€™s marketing VP, Greg Joswiak.
โ€‹
Next week is anticipated to focus entirely on the Mac, with updates to the iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini on the horizonโ€”all powered by the M4 chip, which debuted in the iPad Pro back in May. Hereโ€™s what you can look forward to:
โ€‹
โ€‹New MacBook Proโ€‹
The new MacBook Pro is expected to feature 16GB of RAM as a starting option for the first time, along with three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an upgrade from the base M3 model. It will likely include a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, improving upon the M3 chipโ€™s 8-core design. Higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are also expected to feature the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, delivering enhanced performance without any major design changes.
โ€‹
โ€‹New iMac
โ€‹
In addition to the MacBook Pro, Apple is prepping an upgrade to the 24-inch iMac, currently powered by the M3 chip. This model is expected to transition to the M4 chip, potentially featuring 16GB of RAM and two additional CPU cores, similar to the base model M4 MacBook Pro.
โ€‹
โ€‹New Mac mini
โ€‹
Lastly, the Mac mini is set for a significant refresh this month. In addition to new configurations with the M4 and M4 Pro chips, the Mac mini is receiving its biggest redesign in years. According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on a completely redesigned Mac mini that will be "far smaller than its predecessor," resembling the form factor of the Apple TV. While the overall footprint will be smaller than the current model, it may be slightly taller.
โ€‹
Stay tuned for more updates as the announcements unfold next week!

2. Everything New in iOS 18.2 Beta 1

โ€‹
The first developer beta of iOS 18.2 is here for Apple Intelligence-supported devices, including the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 series, bringing a host of major updates for iPhone users. Get ready for enhanced Apple Intelligence features, upgrades to the Mail app, and more! So, Whatโ€™s New in iOS 18.2 Beta 1?โ€‹
โ€‹โ€‹
New Apple Intelligence Features

  • Image Playground: Create "fun images in seconds" with Appleโ€™s new Image Playground app, offering styles like Animation and Illustration. A Sketch style is coming in a future update. This app integrates with Messages and Mail for easy use!
  • Genmoji Support: Elevate your emoji game by generating original Genmojis based on text descriptions or photos of friends and family. Share them inline in messages or as stickers!
  • ChatGPT Integration: Siri can now tap into ChatGPT for enhanced responses. You can sign in to your ChatGPT account in Settings and choose whether to enable this feature.
  • Writing Tools Updates: Generate text with a new "Compose" option in Writing Tools, and utilize ChatGPTโ€™s image capabilities. Plus, a new feature lets you specify changes to your text more easily.
  • Visual Intelligence: iPhone 16 users can activate a new visual intelligence mode by long-pressing the camera control. Take photos to search for similar images or gather information about objects around you!
  • Image Wand: In the Notes app, the Image Wand feature lets you turn rough sketches into polished images and create visuals based on surrounding context.

Default Apps: iOS 18.2 introduces a "Default" menu in Settings, allowing you to set default apps for Messaging and Calling globally, including Email, Browser App, and more.
โ€‹
โ€‹Voice Memos Upgrade: For iPhone 16 Pro users, a revamped Voice Memos experience lets you layer multiple tracks and separate them post-recording.
โ€‹
โ€‹Volume Limit Control: A new "Volume Limit" option in Settings allows you to set maximum volume levels for media playback, keeping phone calls and alerts unaffected.
โ€‹
Stay tuned for more updates and explore these exciting new features in iOS 18.2!

3. New Magic Mouse, Trackpad and Keyboard Coming Soon
โ€‹
โ€‹
Apple is announcing new M4 Macs next week. However, it seems the company is also working on updates for its accessories, including new versions of the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard. But before you get too excited, here are the details.

โ€‹
New Magic Accessories with USB-C
โ€‹
According to Aaron Perris on X, the iOS 18.1 RC includes references to a "new" Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad 2, and an updated Magic Keyboard. It's worth noting that the current versions of the Magic Mouse and Trackpad were already labeled as version 2, introduced in 2015.

โ€‹
9to5Mac analyzed the code from macOS 15.1 RC, which also surfaced today, confirming mentions of these new "Magic" accessories. The notable addition is the suffix ".usb," suggesting that Apple might simply add a USB-C port to the existing models rather than introducing a new generation with upgraded features or designs.

โ€‹
Furthermore, the system will utilize the same icon assets for these ".usb" models, indicating that a redesign is unlikely. While the Magic Keyboard received an update in 2021 with the M1 iMac, the Magic Mouse and Trackpad have not seen significant changes in nearly a decade.
โ€‹

While the addition of a USB-C port is certainly a welcome upgrade, those hoping for more substantial changes may find this update somewhat disappointing.

4. iPhone 17 Pro Max to Feature Smaller Dynamic Island

Technology analyst Jeff Pu, known for his reliable Apple insights, has revealed that the high-end iPhone 17 Pro Max, set to launch next year, will feature a smaller Dynamic Island. This information echoes his earlier findings from May.
โ€‹
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to adopt a "metalens" for its Face ID technology, resulting in a "much narrowed" Dynamic Island on the device. Interestingly, this change is not anticipated for the smaller iPhone 17 Pro or any other models in the iPhone 17 lineup.
โ€‹
So, what exactly is a metalens? Unlike traditional iPhone camera lenses, which use curved surfaces to redirect light toward the image sensor, a metalens is flat and utilizes microscopic patterns etched onto its surface to focus light more precisely.
โ€‹
While Pu's recent research note didnโ€™t delve into the specifics of how Apple plans to implement this metalens technology for Face ID, or how it will contribute to the narrower Dynamic Island, it's clear that this advancement could enhance the iPhone experience.

5. Apple Is Working on App Store Like New Gaming App

โ€‹
Apple is working on an App Store-style app designed for gaming. It would merge App Store gaming content, Apple Arcade, and Game Center into a central location.
โ€‹
Centralized hub for gaming wonโ€™t replace Game Center, it will integrate seamlessly with users' existing profiles.

โ€‹
The app will feature multiple tabs, including a "Play Now" section where users can discover editorial content and game recommendations. You'll also find challenges, leaderboards, achievements, and games from both the App Store and Apple Arcade.

โ€‹
In addition to promoting special gaming events and crucial updates, Apple is reportedly experimenting with integrating FaceTime and iMessage to enhance player communication. There are even discussions about allowing developers to offer mini games via App Clips!

โ€‹
Functionally, the app aims to mimic the Xbox app for iPhone, enabling players to check their status, see friends' activities, search for new games, and manage their game library. This initiative seems geared toward making Apple devices more appealing to gamers.

โ€‹
As for the launch date, it remains unclear whether this new gaming app will debut next year with an iOS 18 update or as part of iOS 19. Stay tuned for more details!
